Misconception of self-defence

There is a misconception that self-defence is synonymous with fighting, physical contact, and protecting yourself, others, or possessions with physical force or by means of using a weapon.

This is a myth and it is important that one realises that there are other more important concepts that need to be taken into consideration when talking about self-defence.

When referring to self-defence, there are five golden rules to remember:

  1. Self-defence is not about fighting
  2. It’s never acting out of the law
  3. Self-defence is about extracting yourself from any situation without confrontation or harm
  4. It is about being able to walk away from any situation
  5. Self-defence is not about winning
